Via Garona is a pedestrian hiking path of 170 km, linking the Compostela sites between Toulouse (Basilica of Saint-Sernin) and Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges (Cathedral of Saint-Marie).
It goes through 41 towns, all located in the Haute-Garonne department, and in fact links two Pilgrims’ paths: the GR®653* voie d’Arles with the GR®78 voie du Piémont. Via Garona is set in a network of Saint-James Way paths and is rich in historical, cultural and natural heritage all along its route.
The path is punctuated by six monuments listed in the UNESCO World Heritage: the Basilica of Saint-Sernin and the Hôtel Dieu Saint-Jacques in Toulouse, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, the early Christian Basilica and the Chapel of Saint-Julien in Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, and the Basilica Saint-Just-de-Valcabrère.
*GR refers to ‘Grande Randonnée’ routes, the French code for hiking paths which can usually be seen on maps
